6.2L V8 Engine Recall on Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban
In 2025, GM recalled some 2021 to 2024 Silverado 1500, Tahoe, and Suburban models with the 6.2L V8 (RPO L87). Flaws in the rods or crankshaft can make the engine fail. In 2026, NHTSA began looking at engines that failed after the fix.
Recall work is free at a Chevy dealer. Independent shops can’t do it.
When your truck comes in, we check its VIN for open recalls. If we find one, we tell you before any work starts. You can also check your VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup.
Transmission Shudder on 8-Speed Automatics
Some 2015 to 2019 Silverado, Colorado, and Camaro models have an eight-speed automatic. It can shake under light gas at 25 to 80 mph. GM’s Service Bulletin 18-NA-355 says to swap the old fluid for a new type.
It can feel like driving over rumble strips. It can also feel like an engine misfire, so we test first. Our transmission repair team finds the cause, then quotes the fix.
Oil That Meets GM’s dexos1 Specification
GM wants dexos1 oil in its gas engines. The newest version is dexos1 Gen 3. GM says oils without the dexos label are not approved.
Your oil cap or owner’s manual lists the grade, such as 0W-20 or 5W-30.

Chevrolet Repair FAQs
Will independent service void my Chevrolet warranty?
No. A federal law, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, says GM can’t void your warranty just because a local shop did the work. The FTC enforces it.
Keep your receipts and follow GM’s service schedule. Repairs GM covers under warranty should still go to a Chevy dealer, since GM pays for them there.
Can Parker perform Chevrolet recall repairs?
No. Only Chevy dealers can do recall repairs, and they do them free. We check your VIN for open recalls and tell you if one applies.
What oil does my Chevy need?
Most gas Chevy engines need dexos1 oil in the grade printed on the oil cap. Common grades are 0W-20 and 5W-30. Some trucks need a thicker oil after recall work, so we check your records first.
How much does Chevy repair cost at an independent shop?
